Originally from Michigan, Adam, a self-taught drummer, cut his teeth on old hymns and praise choruses in a Baptist church. Adam first attended Alma College on a football scholarship, but quickly found out that music was more important than collegiate athletics. He transferred to the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 2000 where he studied elementary ed. and played drums wherever he could. A family move to Pawleys Island, SC was all that Adam needed to find his way to the beach. He quickly transferred to Coastal Carolina University, where he graduated with a B.A. in history. Adam feels lucky for finally finding a group of musicians who love to create music and that are focused on achieving the goals that they set for themselves.
Jan 3, 2010What "rock and roll" is now-is not rock and roll. It's pop. It's fabricated for the masses. It's an imitation-a shoddy semblance of what it was. It's Perry Como music compared to real rock and roll. Remember when it all started? There was real rock and roll, and then that other music your parents listened to. It's like rock and roll now is the music that our parents listened to. It's like gone.
This is a pretty scary thought. Neil Young quoted this 18 years ago. I wonder what he would say now? As a member of Ten Toes Up, I swear that we will not lose our rock and roll edge and we will definately not turn pop. I'm personally thinking of going back to flannel shirts and stonewashed jeans, unlike the stars of today, who turned to girly jeans and gold glittered t-shirts.
The problem I'm really having is that it seems that a lot of the places we play want us to be like everyone else. WE refuse to be the norm in this area. We aren't going to change. I know that we could make twice the amount of money if we would change and be a cover band, but when has real rock and roll been about the money? If you answered "it's not about the money" then you are right. I would rather be poor and not lose my soul to the cover song gods.
I thank all of our fans who actually care about what we are doing and who care about the songs we write. No one sees the hours we put into this. By the way, everytime we learn a new cover song, it usually takes less than an hour. Everytime we write an original, it takes between 4 and 6 dedicated practices to that song. We are not taking the easy way out. The broadway bars and one in particular in the inlet can't handle us and we won't be caught dead in your establishments anymore.
Again, we thank all of our fans who support our music and your patience will hopefully be rewarded with a kick ass 3rd album. We are going to stay rock and roll til the end!
Dec 25, 2009It has been so nice to come home for Christmas this year. I got to see my 3 month old niece for the first time and let me tell you that she's got a crazy amount of hair that sticks up just like me. She is so precious. Her name is Kensington. It's always great to see my parents. They just have a way of refilling my spirit. I'm very thankful that I got to hear my mom sing at the candle light Christmas Eve service. Nothing brings tears to my eyes like hearing my mother sing. She always brings the house down. My dog, Izzy, has been having a great time romping thru the snow here in Virginia. She is getting so big and her howl is even bigger! Just a fantastic dog!
2010 is upon us and I'm doing my best to come up with some realistic New Years resolution. First off is that I am going back to church. Prolly not every Sunday cause our schedule is always crazy, but I'm going to make a better effort when I am home. Secondly, I will be a better person who shows more selflessness (not selfishness). My parents are amazing at showing me how good you can feel when you put other people first. My last resolution, and this may be the hardest, is to keep my clothes on at gigs and everywhere else (sorry ladies). No more naked indian running around with no pants on.
I hope everyone has been having a great Christmas and we'll see everyone at the Beaver Bar on New Years Eve. Merry Christmas!
Nov 25, 2009We have a new dog in the ten toes up house. I've been pushing for a dog for quite awhile and I figured it felt like the right time. All it took was a couple of small lies and wham! a new bloodhound puppy! This dog is actually lazier than I am and that is saying a lot! She will be attending gigs and watching over our equipment when she gets a little bit bigger. When she does make her appearance, please feel free to come pet her (she'll prolly already be sleeping).
Sep 21, 2009Frisbee golf has recently become one of our new hobbies, but the lack of local courses has set me on a mission. I want to bring a good course to the Myrtle Beach area. We have several parks that would be perfect for the setup and there has been a good amount of interest from the few I've talked to about it. It's a great sport that is easy for everyone and, most importantly, it's free. I'm on a quest to find out what it takes to make it happen so let the mission begin. If anyone would like to help just let me know.
